雷慕沙論老子與《道德經》

提要: 雷慕沙以中外神話相似性為背景切入對老子的研究,強調不同古代民族哲學觀點之間的關係。文中,他高度評價老子,認為老子是一位「真正的哲學家、明智的道德家、雄辯的神學家和精深的形而上學家」。雷慕沙從對宇宙本源認識的角度評述了「道生一,一生二,二生三,三生萬物」中「三位一體」的思想,將之與畢達哥拉斯等希臘哲學家的思想進行對比。文中,他還翻譯了《道德經》中的第二十五、三十一、四十二、四十六共計四個章節中的部分內容,體現了19世紀法國漢學界對《道德經》的理解與認識水準。

Abstract: Rémusat approached his study of Laozi from the perspective of mythological similarities between China and the West, emphasizing connections among the philosophical views of different ancient peoples. In that essay, he spoke highly of Laozi, regarding him as a “true philosopher, a wise moralist, an eloquent theologian, and a profound metaphysician.” Rémusat interpreted the idea of the “Trinity” in the line “The Dao produces one, one produces two, two produce three, and three produce all things” from the perspective of the origin of the universe, comparing it with the thought of the Greek philosopher Pythagoras. In addition, he translated portions of chapters 25, 31, 42, and 46 of the Daodejing, reflecting how nineteenth-century French Sinology understood and approached the text.
